Spectra Eclipse RGB Buttons + LED Wiz + GP
« on: February 13, 2021, 03:52:55 pm »
I'm working on prototyping a setup to prepare for my first MAME build.  As a complete n00b, I had a couple of questions about wiring the Spectra Eclipse RGB buttons into a LED Wiz + GP board.

1.) The buttons come pre-wired with four wires.  Red, Green, Blue, and White.  I don't want to make assumptions about which wires are which, so does anyone have a picture or description of how to wire these into the LED Wiz?

2.) Having messed with LED's a bit before, I usually have to put a resistor inline with them.  Is this the case with these buttons as well or do they already have resistors?

3.) Is USB power enough to run the LED Wiz or do I need to supply additional power to it?  (I see it has both a 5v connection and a USB connection.)

Any help getting started here is appreciated!

1.) The buttons come pre-wired with four wires.  Red, Green, Blue, and White.
White wire is connected to the common anode (+) where you apply the operating voltage.

Red, green, and blue wires are connected to the cathodes. (-)
-  The LED Wiz controls the brightness of each color channel by controlling how much current flows through it.

2.) Having messed with LED's a bit before, I usually have to put a resistor inline with them.  Is this the case with these buttons as well or do they already have resistors?
RGB LEDs have built-in current limiting resistors.

3.) Is USB power enough to run the LED Wiz or do I need to supply additional power to it?  (I see it has both a 5v connection and a USB connection.)
Based on what you've posted, it looks like you will need an external 5v power source that can supply up to 180mA per RGB button.
- For example, 12 buttons * 180mA = 2160mA.  Add some wiggle room so you don't push it too hard and you're looking for something like a 5VDC@2.5A power supply.

Helio9 RGB Lighting Option Notes:

This option includes a special version of our Helio9-RGB lighting unit which is permanently fixed into the light/switch holder unit. It also includes 24" of color coded wires. Note that this option is 5vDC only, and higher voltages will damage the LEDs. Current requirement is 180ma.
