What is this called?
« on: February 09, 2021, 03:32:11 pm »
I'm working on a project with a Time Crisis pedal and gun. This is one end of the cable shielding that the wires for the light gun run through, I don't know what it's called so I'm having trouble searching for a replacement (the original length of the whole thing is only about 60cm and I need to find something longer). The closest term I've found is cable gland, but none of the ones I've seen look like this. Also the threads are flattened on the sides so it fits into a rectangular hole and can't rotate, what's the terminology for that?

I would just detach these things and use them with a longer shielding but I can't as they're glued together. Also suggestions with how to replace the shielding with something non metal and lighter (rubber/nylon) that will still attach to whatever these things are would be appreciated!

typically it called a "gun hose" or "gun harness hose" or "harness hose" or even "harness assembly" and it usually comes as a complete unit. I don't believe the fitting end itself is just available for purchase, as even the service manual simply has it listed as an assy. (also stupid expensive)

the hose itself is called "stripwound interlocked metal hose" and is typically stainless steel.

i have in the past have had a company in town make up a hydraulic hose for me with a crimped SAE fitting on each end that i could fit a nut onto to keep it captive. it's wasn't high pressure hose, so it was fairly flexible.

if you aren't worried about theft or intentional damage, I would look at maybe just using a silicone or rubber hose. it'll feel much nicer. and can be terminated with some larger diameter tubing for some strain relief... and some well placed zip ties can hold it inside the gun/machine.

this could also be a project for a local makerspace. perhaps someone could make something that could be 3d printed... or an original style part be milled out of brass or aluminum.

sorry this post is not a "this part number is _____" post, but i hope it helps nonetheless.

That's very helpful, thanks. It's good just to know that this isn't a common thing that I can't find because I'm not searching for the right terms. I'll mull over your suggestions and try and get to the best solution.
