U-HID and quadrature axis limitations - trackball + 2 spinners?
« on: September 17, 2020, 11:59:52 am »
So apparently there is a USB/Windows limitation of 3 axes for quadrature devices (e.g. Trackballs, Spinners, etc).
I purchased a U-HID board from Ultimarc, on the advise from their support folks that this device could support both a trackball AND 2 spinners.
But after reading the manual, it appears this is not actually possible, at least on independent axes, since there is a USB/Windows limitation for 3 axes (X,Y,Z).
So I'm wondering ... since I don't know of any games that use BOTH a trackball AND a spinner, maybe I could have the spinners on the same axes as the trackball (the board has enough programmable pins to allow for this).
Has anyone tried this with success? (e.g. the Trackball is X/Y, spinner 1 is X, spinner 2 is Y)
I don't yet have all the wiring parts I need to test, so I'll find out myself eventually.

Thanks!

Yes. That's common. Shouldn't be a problem.
