Burger time running servo in 8-way only
« on: July 25, 2020, 08:33:40 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm not sure where the best place for this question is, so I'll stick it here.

I'm running Mame through Hyperspin and RL. I also have LEDBlinky with the JDR running the Servostik.

The servo correctly shifts between 4-way and 8-way for every game except Burger Time. I'm running the btime ROM, not a clone. It should be 4-way, but the servo will actively switch to 8-way each and every time. (Regardless of whether the previous game was 4-way or 8-way.)

I checked the controls xml file for LEDBlinky, and it says 4-way there. I opened up RLUI and changed the servo setting for btime to 4-way instead of auto. That did nothing.

I then tried unchecking the box for JDR control in LEDBlinky, but then my servo doesn't respond to any game, so I must've somehow deactivated the control for RLUI or Hyperspin to control the servo.

Anyway, one of the apps must be sending 8-way info to the servo. Any ideas where I should check? Or any workarounds available?

Try using the Ledblinky troubleshooting app. This will show you what messages it is receiving so should give you an idea where the issue is. If you go into the Ledblinky folder you'll find it in there.

Solved: (sort of)

Well, I opened up the troubleshooting file, but the only thing it showed was that it loaded up the default Mame controls and set the servo to 8way.

However, I noticed that the other default LED controls that were already created (most likely from Rocket Blinky) had 8-way or 4-way loaded into the common controls tab. Mine for btime was left blank (as were all the Rom controls I set up). When I listed this as 4way, it solved the problem.

I had an issue with losing servo control, but per Andy's advice simply unplugging it and plugging it back in reset it sufficiently.
