IPAC4 controller not working properly?
« on: July 19, 2020, 12:21:31 pm »
Hi All!

I have a custom built controller with a 56-pin IPAC4 card in it (I did not build it, and the person who did is not very communicative).

Here's what's going on:

The computer reads a "second keyboard," in the device manager, but when I open up Notepad, nothing registers when I press any of the buttons or move the joysticks.

The WinIPac V2 configuration software starts out in keyboard mode, but if I select a pin and change it from "Disabled" to "Switch," the app closes and the computer makes the connect/disconnect alert sound. When I open the app again, it will allow me to make a change to the pin assignment, but the controller is now in Dinput mode. If I force reconfigure, the sound happens again and the app closes. Open back up, and it is in keyboard mode, and so on. So, basically, I can't change anything in "keyboard mode."

So, I'm not sure what the problem is or what is going on. The spinner works just fine. The trackball registers, but only on the X axis.

I'm a complete noob at MAME, etc., and all of the searching I've done doesn't seem to answer any questions.

I don't think it should matter, but I do have an xbox controller set up with Xpadder, and that works fine (I'm using Hyperspin on a dedicated external drive).

Any help would be appreciated. I am even willing to pay someone for their time to help me figure this out.

Thanks!

If the guy you bought it from is not communicative, contest the charge with your credit card company. That will wake him up.

I appreciate that, but "setting up" was not part of the contract - because I didn't think it was going to be such an issue (and I really didn't think about that as a problem).
