Hello, need cabinet advice. Are these worth anything?
« on: June 08, 2020, 02:08:04 pm »
Hello, guys

I am new to the forum and I apologise if i am not posting in the right forum. Please move my post to the correct one if needed.

I have a couple of old arcade cabinets that came into my posession recently (they were gifted to me by a family member who figured since I am a gamer i know arcades lol)
Although its true, I spent all my childhood at the arcades i know very little regardinga these cabinets.

Can you please point me in the right direction?
1. Are they worth anything? Can they be sold?
2. They all work, they have games. Some of them have monitor issues which i will fix in the near future.
3. I can see them beeing branded as NSM Lowen cabinets. Can anyone recognise them?

Any advice would be appreciated. I have 8 in total, i will maybe keep one and sell the rest.

Thank you in advance

Not worth much in my eyes as they are obvious conversions. However, cabs in great shape with CRT (woohoo!) And a few good games. :)

Man those are weird.  Are you outside the US?  This looks like some oddball junk you'd see from Russia or Australia or somewhere that's hard to ship arcade cabinets.  Just judging by the monitor mounts they look like some sort of bootleg pac-man machines??

Ahh apparently they are German:

As you can see they look quite nice if you take the time to clean them up and refinish them.

Those kind of things were pretty popular over here at one point.

They are what we call chip shop specials lol

Kind of cabs you found in chip shops, pubs, clubs etc.

You poor Europeans always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to video games.  Then again, compared to Japan we all do.

They were always solid cabs.

I think it was mostly due to licensing and costs.

We didnt often get the “original” look cabs you guys did except in the arcades etc.

It was pretty common to just get a generic cabinet with a random game in, Hell the game was usually a bootleg lol

Lots of them also had those bulbous black sticks in to which I frigging hate! Dunno if you guys got them over there?
But I always thought they felt like ass and often broke.

They make me have nostalgia for all the Electrocoin machines I've played over the years :) They mostly had the felt like ass sticks installed :)

I never got nostalgic for the design or controls of a cabinet till I started building. Then I noticed all the artwork and what not. I played classics with different controls, not knowing any better. I always knew when the controls were crappy. I guess for me, it was all about the games.

Yeah that's what I was referring to in regards to getting screwed.  I've got a few in some arcade lots I've bought over the years and they are indeed terrible.  Kind of like a Data East stick but worse right?

As for the regional differences, a lot of games imported from Japan had their cabs built locally to save on shipping.  Here in the States we had the distinct pleasure of getting mostly Bally/Midway cabs made in the Chicago area, who did a fantastic job.  They even did most of the earlier ones in plywood with hand painted stencils.  I personally think up until the mid to late 90's the US had the best looking cabs, but the Japanese candy cabs also can't be beat.

Yeah we defo didnt get as many nice ones as you guys.
Like I said we did get “proper” cabs but they were mostly found in proper arcades.

One thing we did have lots of though was cocktail cabs, Used to be loads of them over here!

Even my little local pub had one in the middle of nowhere lol

As for the sticks these are what I mean:

Proper Janky ass things imo!

I love the Candy design though, So small and versatile!

I really want to get a full sized cant to put my HNG 64 board in but cant find or afford one atm.

There were a lot of JAMMA cabs in Europe apparently; some of them look quite nifty to me.  They shouldn't be worth a fortune but would be nice to have if you've got a game that needs a home.
