MAME in a Williams cocktail?
« on: February 19, 2004, 12:48:33 pm »
Hi everyone, another newbie signing in here.  I picked up an old cocktail table that I'm working on converting into a MAME box.  Its a Williams cocktail, looks just like the Stargate/Defender/Robotron cocktails, but by the time I got it, it was pretty beat up and was running Choplifter.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried a MAME conversion on one of these and had some pictures or anything interesting to share.  I've found it to be pretty convenient size-wise, especially with the control panels being on the longer side of the table, rather than on the short side like a Ms. Pacman cocktail.  The only tricky part I've had to deal with is fitting microswitched buttons and joysticks in the stock locations, its a bit tight in there.

Anyway, just wanted to ask about that, I'll be putting lots of pictures up once I get this thing finished (waiting on my minipacs right now).  Thanks to anyone with info!

Have you looked through the cocktail projects on the examples page of this site?

Sounds like a fun project. Enjoy.

If your clearances are tight then just use leaf switch based buttons. They aren't that much more expensive, and they do improve gameplay on some games (Track & Field, and other "press the button as fast as you can games), because leaf buttons can be repeatedly pressed much quicker than microswitch button.
