Hello awesome arcade friends.
I purchased an existing MAME cab with old tech. It is JAMMA wired to a custom PC that is like a 1 ghz Celeron with 2 megs of RAM, and a 10 gig IDE HD. (real powerhouse)
It has an arcade monitor in it. (just a 15khz I believe)
I'm debating and trying to understand what I need for this to connect to a more modern PC and beef this up. It has two players, 6 buttons per player, working coin doors, a 1p and 2p start button and a 'select' (exit) button. I intend to add an insert coin button for each player, and perhaps a few others. (probably a few hidden ones for admin functions)
The existing controls could use replacing. I also want flashy LED lights all over the place. (yes I know many aren't into that!) I'm looking at the Ultimarc Servo sticks w/ RGB ball top addon and the Goldleaf RGB buttons.
I understand that the best PC configuration for driving the CRT monitor is probably an older Radeon card w/ CRT_EMUDRIVER running GroovyMame.
Where I'm a bit stuck is in deciding how to go about this. I see two paths which cost roughly the same.
Sounds like I need a J-PAC and a PacLED64 if I intend to keep the JAMMA wiring and setup my light show.
But I really like the idea of the I-pac ultimate I/O. I thinking I would be maxing out the J-Pac inputs, but the ultimate I/O would leave me room to grow if I wanted to integrate other things in the future (and it has the LED controller integrated). I understand I would have to ditch the JAMMA if I go this way. I think I'm okay with that. The existing JAMMA connector seems to have some issues anyway.
But if I go with the I-pac over the J-pac, how do I get the monitor connected to the video card?
Would this be the best solution and all I'd need?
https://www.ultimarc.com/arcade-vga-and-video/arcadevga-accessories/arcade-monitor-video-amplifier/ The I-pac and the arcade monitor video amp combo are roughly the same price as the J-pac and the PacLED64.
Thanks for helping me bring the dream to life ; )
