Question: Star Wars Alan1-Yoke... bolt size?
« on: April 18, 2020, 10:14:20 pm »
I’m hoping someone could tell me the size of the bolts which come with the Alan-1 yoke.

I purchased one and am getting everything ready for its arrival!  I made a base to mount it in based on a template.  I made the base out of 3/4 ply, so I assume the bolts which will cone will not be long enough.

I’d like to get larger bolts but them I’m not sure what size and don’t want them to be too thin or too thick...

Any info would be appreciated.  I did try contacting the Alan-1 folks but received no response...fee I wonder if they even offer support!?!!

Thanks again!

The threads are 1/4"-20, but pretty sure the bolts are fixed like the ones on the original SW yoke so you can't easily replace them.

Look for something like this part -- Menards SKU 2025371.

https://www.menards.com/main/hardware/fasteners-connectors/bolts/binding-posts-binding-post-extensions/midwest-fastener-reg-1-4-20-x-1-2-joint-connector-bolts-1-count/84366/p-1444440097615-c-19382.htm

These "Joint Connector Bolts" are often used on folding futon frames or other objects with an adjustable wood frame.
- Tighten using an allen wrench.

They should work for your panel.

Worst case, you might need to route a <1/4" pocket on the back of the panel.
- 1/2" tall bolt and 1/2" deep fastener ==> slightly less than 1/4" of threads will engage on a 3/4" panel.

Thank you for the response Scott and for the tip on how to address this!  I’m not sure I would have thought of that solution without your help!
