MAME and Sequential Shifter (h2seq)
« on: March 18, 2020, 11:48:36 am »
Since I've had some more time at home these days, I have been playing around in MAME more. I am trying to use my Logitech Driving Force GT (with up/down shifter) with manual trans games like Off Road Challenge, SF Rush, and California Speed. Similar to the model2 emulator, I have been able to use H2SEQ, in conjunction with Joy2Key, to get Cruis'n USA to work but the identical approach does not seem to work with the others listed. I have set the keyboardprovider flag from 'auto' to 'dinput' in the mame.ini file but that does not solve the issue. And my google search skills have failed me so I figured I'd go to the pros. Is it possible to use my hi/lo shifter to roll through the 1-4 gears?

Those three games you cited are not supported, that's why you had no success. You can see the list of supported games in the documents folder.
On a side note, the latest version of H2Seq (uploaded yesterday) supports joystick input so joy2key is no more necessary ;)

Fantastic work - everything worked great! Not only does it eliminate the need for Joy2key, but it now makes several racing games way more enjoyable. Bravo!

Hi baritonomarchetto,
The new h2seq has been working great. Thank you! At the risk of sounding never satisfied, would it be possible to add the two other San Francisco Rush titles (SF Rush the Rock and SF Rush 2049) to your list? I have no idea what it takes to make these work so I understand if it doesn't happen. Either way, I appreciate the effort of this great program.

I think those should work out-of-the-box (I use only partial name flags, sooo...). There are no problem for me to add new games in the case they are not working, even new emulators, as far as someone can test it.

They don't work for me out of the box, unfortunately. Original Rush works fine but not the Rock or 2049.

Ok, I will take a look. Rush the rock is reported as "not working" in MAME: are you using another emulator for that?

Ok: fixed. Let me know ;)
Delete the old config.ini and let the software create a new config.ini

Ok - I downloaded your latest file from racermame.altervista.org. Deleted the config.ini file and reran the .exe. But the Rock and 2049 do not respond to the gear shifter. I made sure I updated the ini file to include the shift up and shift down numbers per the joystick test file. I verified that the original Rush and Off Road Challenge still works like the previous version.

I am using MAME 0.216. The SF Rush the Rock is playable. Please let me know if you need any additional details.

I couldn't test the rock, but 2049 is working with the latest H2Seq for me (MAME 0.219, but it doesn't matter which version). Maybe I uploaded a not working version, sorry. Should be fixed now

It's brilliant - both The Rock and 2049 work great! I realized that I had unique .ini files for those games and needed to change the keyboardprovider flag to 'dinput' there as well.

Thank you for your quick feedback - much appreciated!

In case your model 2 games gears handlin is broken now, download the version I just uploaded :D
No need to recreate the config.ini. again if you did with yesterday's release.
