Smaller Depth Cabinets recommendations - Newbie here.
« on: March 11, 2020, 07:20:57 pm »
Hey everyone,

I'm new here and new to the scene. Totally newbie.

At the end of this month I'll be making a cabinet with my father.

We was going to focus on making ONDs metropolis cabinet because its the first that caught my eye because it looks so cool!

But my partner asked me if it was possible to find one with less/least depth so it doesn't take up much room in our lounge.

My question for you guys is, can anyone please point me in the direction to any cutting plans (in metric as I'm from the UK) to cabinets with a smaller depth?

I have no knowledge of woodworking. My father is the one that'll be doing all the cutting/making while I'll just be there to help out.

Thank you everyone in advance!

Zilka

Zilka,

Looks like this person posted dimensions for his slim build.  You'll have to use some intuition with your dad since it's not a step-by-step guide.

You can find plans & measurements for 'Project MAME' and 'Taitorama' here: http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/eng/index.htm

For my first build I used the Taitorama plans. I never did something like this before and had only basic tools (jigsaw & corded drill, that's pretty much it), so it can be done by a newbie. The only thing I would change in the plans is leaving out the keyboard drawer, which you don't need since you can just use a small wireless keyboard.

You might want to check out knievel's woody.  That really doesn't sound right.
As well as his "Evolution" build.

this too

Edit:
Can't forget Vigolix and derivatives

Hi Zilka

I've been building slim depth cabinets for a while. I posted a build thread on the Retropie forum here:

https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/23649/mad-planets-cabinet-build-finished?_=1584557238260

I recommend thinner HDF for some panels like the monitor bezel and speaker panel...
