ONE Try Challenge #003 Game: Piranha
« on: March 09, 2020, 08:30:07 am »
ONE Try Challenge #003

---------------------------
Game Name : Piranha
ROM Name  = piranha.zip
---------------------------

Default Settings

1 week only (no need for longer, right?). Ends SATURDAY, March 14th, 2020 at midnight Pacific Time

RULES:
1 Quarter only!
-One play ONLY (No repeated plays)
Only first score matters
-Study attract mode for game play, ONLY!
No looking for tricks or tips
-No friendly advises to other players after the game
Winner picks next game
-If no winners (draw) Whoever posted first, picks new game
No participants for one week. This thread = DEAD!
-No need for screen shot. It's friendly competition (if you have the need to stroke your ego by cheating at whatever age you are, then you have bigger mental issues than need to win)
The more unknown the better (all games deserves some "love" and recognition, no?)
-Try to provide your best guess as to what controls supposed to be (If incorrectly recognized as 4-way instead of 8, it stays that way for all)
If you know the game, play it, just say it!

It was my first time playing it but I can see that I'll be playing it again.

Reminder - No hints.

4580  <--- not a loser!  ;D

Probably would be better if I've switched to 4 way prior to playing!!

Suggested "suggestion":  After the game is over each time anyone who participated should be "encouraged" to express their opinions of  the game.

The "no hints" rule sort of kills the discussion of the game... and oftentimes that discussion of the game is the best part of the thread... I've learned LOTS of stuff about games this way..

What say you folks?

ALSO... what do you guys think of a separate "Best of 3" comp?  Hell,  we could even tie it in with this one by saying the 1st game of the 3 is the score that counts toward this thread... leaving two more games to play to on the other thread?   The ONE TRY concept is kickass in of it's own right... the idea of being able to play 3-5 games (something in those lines) is itself a good "separate" concept...

Hell,  we could even tie the game discussion mentioned above in with the 2nd thread so as to not muddy up this thread?

All these are just ideas BTW... just want to get some feedback.

What say you?

Sounds like some good suggestions, Frizz.   ;D

Perhaps we can have the "lessons learned" discussions and replay scores in the "one try" comp thread after the comp is officially closed instead of starting separate threads.

That way, there are less threads to manage, link, and navigate.

ABSOLUTELY, I thought that goes without saying. Once it’s over you can discuss it all you want, I assumed people just didn’t have time. As long it’s after, because otherwise it’s potentially advantageous to the next player and I wanted level playing field.

I don’t mind separate compo with “out of 3” going. I didn’t want to do it in this one, because then it becomes why not out 5 or 20, oh wait that that’s the main competition then. Unfortunately ever since VR, my love for retro kind of diminished so even the main one I’ll play one or few times just so it seems like people are participating.

Weird but playable clone. Added to my game list.

That's a good idea... each time move on to a new one try challenge while the old one one try challenge morphs in to a 3-5 (to be decided) try challenge w/game discussion?

Something like that.

To keep clear what round(?)/stage(?) the challenge is in, start with the current title structure for OP . . .

"ONE Try Challenge #003 Game: Piranha"
. . . and when the One Try round/stage is done, maybe change the OP title to something like this?   :dunno

"ONE Try Challenge #003 Game: Piranha [Discuss and THREE MORE Tries]"

"ONE Try Challenge #003 Game: Piranha [Discussion and Redemption Round]"

I like this.  We could maintain the uniqueness of this challenge but still get some discussion and attempts at improving.

FrizzleFried you are the man (?) with fastest reflexes this time around. You pick new game, and go ahead implement whatever you have in mind. Let's see how that works out.

New game selected and posted (Logger).

As for this game,   it's all about luring them near the power "whatever" and then killing as many as you can... then going after the dots.  Use the tunnels as well.

I find "catching" the bad guys difficult since the maze isn't completely visible.  I didn't realize how much I rely on being able to see the maze when playing PacMan.  Having said that the lack of a maze makes this game more interesting and challenging.  For some reason I find it hard to consistently hit the tunnels.  Anybody else have that trouble?
