All New BYOAC High Score Competition! Game #55 (284): Ladybug
« on: January 29, 2020, 10:28:13 am »
ALL NEW BYOAC High Score Competition! Games played so far.

---------------------------
Game Name : Lady Bug
ROM Name  = ladybug
---------------------------

Settings (NOTICE - THESE ARE NOT STOCK MAME SETTINGS ... THESE ARE THE SETTINGS ESTABLISHED EARLIER IN THE SERIES ... I AM KEEPING THEM TO MAINTAIN CONTINUITY...THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE DIFFICULTY IS SET TO MEDIUM NOT EASY):

Controls:  4 way joystick

The goal of Lady Bug is to eat all "flowers," hearts, and letters in the maze while avoiding other insects. The player is represented by a red, yellow, and green character resembling a ladybug while the enemy insects' appearance varies by level. The border of the maze acts as timer, with each circuit signaling the release of an enemy insect from the central area, up to (generally) a maximum of four. The speed of the circuit increases on stages 2 and 5.

One small niggle: The 'Games played so far.' line should be a link that brings you to the 'ALL NEW BYOAC High Score Competition! Games played so far' thread.

The easiest way to make the new thread would be to go to the top of this thread, quote the first post, copy and paste the text into a text editor, edit it to your liking and then copy/paste it into the new topic.

That's why I suggested quoting the first post, because if you quote, you get the text and the link, if you just copy, you only get the text.

Fixed... and this is going to be interesting as I've always played Lady Bug at stock MAME settings...

I must say... Medium difficulty is... well... more difficult.

;)

EDIT: BTW - It is what it is,  but we really didn't need to do medium... if you read the prior time they did Ladybug,  everyone submitted EASY scores... until they realized it and retracted the scores.  Only ONE PERSON actually submitted a medium score (110K)...

This game is MUCH harder on medium though so it makes the games go faster I guess.

I knew I should have chosen Mr. Do! or Snap Jack...

I hate Pacman games, so I won't play this one, except maybe for a token appearance.

But that's the one in the high score list.

I knew I should have chosen Mr. Do! or Snap Jack...

Snap Jack reminds me a bit of Tom & Jerry. https://youtu.be/u8VgNgt7M9g?t=108

14,340.  Was a nice excuse to work on my 60% size pacman cabinet.  I had recently stuck a joystick in it that only had an 8 way restrictor.  A little hot glue and metal blade pieces from a windshield wiper fixed that.  Really need to put my extra Sanwa in it but it'll do for now.

66,900 ... so very close to the cabinets prior high score (which really isn't much as this cabinet had 4 high scores total prior.)  That said,  the current high score was attained with the cabinet set to DEFAULT (easy) difficulty.  Medium is... well... more difficult.  I'm guessing if I went back to EASY I'd rack up a decent score.

ALSO... lets be honest... i've already given up on the EXTRA bonus... going solely for RED (score)...

The scores haven't changed since Feb 2nd, so vodkatonic has won the honor of choosing the next drink game.

Aaand the winner is: Trick Trap.

Lady Bug is a really good game, once you learn to play it properly. BITD I used to just play it like Pac-Man, not knowing about the timing of the pickups and whatnot.
