Video card?
« on: December 27, 2019, 02:35:44 pm »
Time to update some hardware in my mame cabinet. I been wanting to play some 3d driven games and my video card is junk and won't work fast enough. What are some video cards I need to look for to get those 3d games working?

First what card do you use now, and what cpu and mainboard do you have? Powersupply is also important because it need to have the correct powerplug for your gpu.
My system is a total overkill, i use a i750 with a 4gb r9 380. Had it since i upgraded my pc a few years ago. But seems to be fine running everything.

unless something changed recently that i'm unaware of, a powerful video card is only useful with mame if you are using shaders and shiny animated front ends.
it's CPU power that lets you play the 3d games.
what is your current CPU?
I think you need a current gen i5 to run 3d games on current mame.

This answer my question. My CPU is too slow. It's a older amd.

You might want to look at different emulators than MAME for 3d games too. Most of the time they work a lot faster on emulators built specifically for the arcade board they're running on, like Model 2 Emulator, Supermodel, Demul, etc.
