I recently purchased a Numskull 1/4 scale Pac-Man cabinet. I was pretty happy with it but after a little bit of reflection I thought that I just might be able to do better.
I have finally gotten most of the artwork that I need to start my new projects. As I live in Japan I have limited space so rather than building a MAME machine (I have a HTPC that will do that In my living rooms) or buying a full sized machine I've decided to make mini Quarter Scale arcade machines. A list of of all the machines I will be building will follow this post. My wife game me the go ahead. Each machine will be have a Raspberry Pi 3 or maybe a newer one with a 5 inch monitor. They will also have USB inputs and HDMI outputs so that it can be viewed on a larger TV.
I have been looking around at some liquid resin 3D printers and have finally decided to break my piggy bank and buy an Anycubic Photon 3D resin printer. I will be printing quarter scale joysticks (The metal hardware will be lathed for the joystick shafts and the joystick plates will be pot metal that can be bent to the original shape) and buttons with this unit as well as as close to possible replica coin doors, speaker grills, recessed cabinet handles and wheels for those cabinets that had wheels. I was able to source tiny micro switches that will be used for the joysticks and some of the buttons. I will also be trying to make quarter scale leaf switches for those cabinets that had them. I will be trying to make these cabinets as realistic as possible. If anybody has 3D models for Williams, Bally Midway, Atari, Namco or Coin door models for any of the cabinets below hit me with a PM.
Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Space Invaders and Space Invaders Deluxe will use a 45 degree angled semi transparent mirror, backgrounds to replicate the original look. I'm pretty excited about building these. Below is a list of games I will be building..
I have been working on artwork for the backsplash for Xevious, the Kick Plate for Space Invaders Deluxe. It's not perfect but hopefully it'll look pretty convincing when printed for these tiny cabinets. Each cabinet will have a place on my game room wall next to a framed Flyer and game info placks. It'll take some time to finish all my cabinets but stay tuned, I'm pretty committed. There is a link for the art I've been working on below.
