So real quick backstory 10 years ago I had a project all ready to go, unfortunately - live got in the way and all my files just sent in the corner of my file server. I just recently dug out my Mame files (v.0136) and thought man it would be fun to do this. I recently built a house and I am finishing the basement. I have already built a bar with a dual-tap kegerator, have a 150" projection screen and other goodies. I think it's time I revisit building a Mame cab. I mentioned it to the wife and she said I should (WHAT???!! LOL). My boys heard and immediately asked when they would be able to play. So I guess with all the support, it's that time.
I have a lot of things to consider. For one, I just have to figure out all my ROM stuff as it's been FOREVER and no idea what state my collection is actually in. So that is my off-time at the moment. If you look at my profile, my old project is still here and although I like it - styling has changed in my basement so I have to figure out how to make it look. I've gotten pretty decent at building big "projects" since then and am confident I can put together a good cabinet. Where I'm struggling is monitor. I want to design a cab that fits whatever I decide to use.
Back when I looked at this years ago, pretty sure I decided on using an old 27" CRT TV with the hopes of moving to a WG 9800 (I think). I am VERY hesitant to go to an LCD as I would like to have that arcade feel.
Can anyone point me to or talk to me about what the best options are. I don't need it to be a 1:1 reproduction. If I can use a CRT TV that would be ideal. I remember having looked at soft15kz at one point but don't remember anything. I also remember I had looked at something about creating faux scanlines to give the appearance of an old acracde monitor.
Can you guys point me to a place where I can read up and make a decision. I honestly went through the board but didn't really find what I was looking for. I was hoping to shortcut some of the searching and get info from the folks here.
I will make a promise....IF I can figure all this out, I'll post my thread build here as I know a couple folks have said they have been lacking.
I am a planner and if I'm doing this, I want to know the components before hand so I can just go go go.
Thanks in advance everyone. Feels awesome to come back to board 10 years later!!!
