I think this is a moment where Steve Jobs would've made them come up with something more creative. I think he would've thought it was ugly. I think it's ugly. Apple usually prefers form over function and this seems contrary to that.

Maybe one larger lens, or maybe black backs only to hide it, or something. Going with a spider eye configuration? Yuck.

Yeah it's ugly.  A simple piece of glass covering the whole camera array would have fixed it.  I've also got to wonder who the hell needs all of those lenses.  If you are a photographer you'll have a dedicated camera and if you are a soccer mom you just annoyingly take pics of your food.

it's like... we have all these cameras...they all do ONE thing good...but none of them do everything good. so let's just stick them all on and fix it in software.

In another couple of years, the entire back of the phone will filled with cameras. Macro, zoom, IR, UV, thermal imaging, night vision, Black and White!

I assumed the lenses worked together. I don't think it's ugly, though I am not against a covering window....if I computed with fruit - which I don't.
