Trackball/Spinner Dedicated buttons
« on: July 02, 2019, 12:54:35 am »
I’m 97% done finalizing my design for my cab, but I can’t keep going back and forth on whether or not to have dedicated buttons for the games that use the trackball or spinner. I was wondering what the general consensus is for those games.

Do people like dedicated (separate from P1/P2 buttons, above or adjacent to the trackball) or is it fine to just use the normal player buttons for those games needing them in combination with the spinner or trackball? Thanks for the help!

PS - I promise to write a build thread soon.

Oh and before someone asks, yes, I have looked through the entire Control Panel database thread for inspiration and still can’t decide.

I’d say the general consensus is only put a button where you are sure you need it.  If there’s a game you had in mind check out the ergonomics from pictures online and decide.  There isn’t a right or wrong answer but minimizing buttons most certainly cleans up the panel and creates less confusion for the person using it.

Draw it up on cardboard the actual size of the panel. That will give you a feel for good positioning and bad.

Trackball, yes, depending. Spinner, like Asteroids layout, no.
