Mounting keyboard encoders....

I have both an IPAC and  a KEYWIZ.  I am wondering what people use to mount them inside their control panels.   Do most people mount them directly to the wood with some screws or do most mount them on some kind of stand off.

If you feel like posting a picture that would be good too. Doesn't need to be big, just something to get an idea from.

They're pretty common to find in any electronics store.

Ideally, one should use standoffs or nylons spacers (from most hardware stores, usually in the specialty fastener area).  You could also use nylon washers or pieces of hard plastic tubing cut to the proper size.

I've even heard of someone using pieces of a cheap stickpen.  That one gets my vote as the most innovative and inexpensive solution

I have a roll of 1/8 rubber -or maybe it's vinyl- sheeting (I honestly can't remember where I got it). When I need to mount a PCB to anything I usually cut a piece of rubber slightly larger than the PCB to mount under it.

While I was getting screws at the home depot, I took a look at their 'specialty screws and fasteners' and found some nylon spacers, that were just like a white tube. they were bout 1/2" long, and the same size hole thru it as the screws.

Screw goes thru the hole on the ipac, then the spacer, and then right into the inside of the cab. 1 on each corner and it is VERY secure, nicely standing 1/2" from the inside wood of the cabinet. Did the same in the back with the motherboard

This was how I was originally going to mount the boards, even went so far as buying a box of Staples Stick Pens for the task, less than a buck.  Then I found mouser.com, they are close to where I live so I just got a bag full of 1/4" nylon spacers from them.  You can find just about anything you need for electronic projects there and they are quite reasonable and only charge actual shipping costs with US Mail as an option.
