Looking for specific tokens
« on: February 12, 2004, 11:50:25 pm »
Does anyone know where/how to find specific tokens?

What I want is a crap-load of Aladdin's Castle tokens for when I have a cab up and running with a coin door.

Feel free to stop here.  The rest is just me babbling on and such...

"Why aladdin's castle," you might ask.  And I'd respond "because growing up, there were two places in town, one of them was aladdin's, the other was Bear-Right, and I'm pretty sure finding a crap-load of the later's would be near imposible"
You may also ask, "why not get some Funspot tokens, you live about 40 min away from there? (but you probably wouldn't know that)" and to that I would say, "although I have lived this close to one of the largest arcades in the world for so long, I hadn't gone there until about 2 years ago, so it doesn't realy have any special meaning to me."

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

how many is a "crapload"? there is a namco arcade that is close to my house in chicago, that used to be aladin's castle, sometimes when you get tokens now you get aladin's tokens and sometimes they just say pacman. theoretically you could just buy a bunch of tokens from there and you would end up with some (prolly not all though) aladin's tokens? seems like shipping tokens wouldnt be cheap though. what became of the aladin's in your area? can you track them down from there?

just thoughts

As for the arcade, supposedly there was a lot of things going on there that weren't all that good involving minors, drugs and the manager, and Namco shut em down.  As for where everything that was in there ended up, I have no idea.

A crapload, I would say is maybe a couple hundred.  Do you think that's too much?  I don't know.  I suppose I could find an Aladdin's Castle and spend $25-$50 on 100-200 coins, but I was hoping that I could find em cheaper...

Since Alladins Castle tokens are still good at any of the Namco arcades, pretty much regardless of what name they are using, I doubt you will find a lot of people willing to part with them for less than their "issue" value.

Our local Namco-run arcades are pretty rabid about not parting with the mechs when they sell a game, and say that corporate is pretty aggressive in being sure that tokens don't go astray.  It was made very clear that when they shut down a location, the tokens are returned to corporate, or sent to another location that is still in operation.

I once knew someone who tried to get some tokens made in the same size -- he was very firmly told that that particular size is for Namco only -- at least from the manufacturer he was speaking with.

Still... occasionally lightning does strike.  If you end up getting someone to sell cheap, and they have extras, I'm sure others posting here would love to know the source...

Is anyone willing, who lives near an aladdin's castle, to ship some to me?  Or does anyone know of an aladdin's that's within, lets say, 100 miles of concord, nh?

The closest Aladdin's castle to me is about a 2-3 hour drive otherwise I'd do it for you no problem.  But this might help some other helpful person to find out if they live close to one.

hmmm, only 80 miles to the Natick Mall... that's doable.

I grew up in Fargo, ND and during the heart of the early-to-mid 80s arcade craze, there was a GREAT arcade called "Bump and Tilt." They had a big bumper car area, a wall of skee ball and a LOAD of machines. It was a fairly large place. I don't know if they were a chain arcade or not, but I would absolutely LOVE to stumble across a boatload of those tokens. If I could find 200 or so, I'd definitely convert my coin mechs...

In order to get Alladin's Castle tokens cheaply, call a competing arcade / family entertainment center and ask if they have a "slug bucket". Tell them you are interested in their Alladin's Castle tokens. If you get a "cool" manager type, you may even get them for free. When I worked at a Circus Pizza here in Minnesota, we had a ten gallon drum filled with slugs (why we didn't toss them I couldn't say) and since we had an Alladin's Castle across the street, we would get upwards of fifty of their tokens a week.

Good luck!

Hm... For some reason, it won't let me edit... "session failure" it says... Oh, well. I forgot to mention something.

I also worked as a tech for Chuck E. Cheese about four years ago. At that store, we had a policy of throwing away tokens from other stores. I doubt that this isn't the policy of every Chuck E. Cheese's everywhere, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.
