ZapCon 8 Roll Call - April 30 - May 1, 2022 - Back on Mofos!!

One of these years... always too much crap going on with the kids to get away.  When they are in college it will be a lot easier.

For a while I thought this was the only way I was getting there.

Dragging children with you all of a sudden makes it ok you know, even when the trip was otherwise verboten as recently as last week!

Typical during zapcon. You will typically find me handing out moonpies at the event.  It a Bob roberts thing. Since Bob is OK and operational. While I don't mine handing out moonpies, I really don't see a need for it anymore.

I do have the remnants of the failed track n field metals from the muesum of pinball in banning.  I would be more than happy to hand out during zapcon. One of the hosts decided to wear all of the chains together and I was left with this giant tangle mess, that the reason why they were left in a box. 

I spent time untangling them and though I should hand them out. During the show.  I have got 38 of them..

That and pbj and MikeA assuring me that amusement outside of the convention center in Mesa would be reduced to something akin to culinary pursuits of the destitute.

OK, I need to do an updated rollcall. If you are indeed coming, please respond to this post. I’m trying to figure some stuff out and I’m gonna have some help this year.

I found out recently that work is sending me to London the week of ZapCon. I will be there for the show, but I won’t be able to do any of the pre-show hijinks that we usually do. Mike and TacoTownCharlie have graciously offered to plan some stuff, so we kind of want to know who’s coming from out of town to the show. So please reply, so we can get an accurate count.

Good News Everyone

We have Starfighters Arcade reserved for the Thursday before ZapCon from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  Burgers and drinks will be served there starting around 5:45.  After that we can adjourn to the Delta Hotel's pool area for more drinks and socializing.  The arcade and burgers are free to all ZapCon attendees and friends so spread the word.

1. Southwest really blowing it with our flight.
2. Alamo forgetting where the hell they put my car.
3. Google not knowing where the hell Starfighters is.
4. My phone taking a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and not being able to call TTC or MikeA for a rescue if #2 or #3 occur.

Del brings up a good point. Starfighters will be open to the public Friday night for their regular hours (7-11 pm). The Monastery is also open. We can do that again this year, it won’t take much local planning; we’ll just show up to those places when we want and everyone could buy their own dinner/drinks/arcade admission.

We could also hang out/socialize around the Delta Hotel’s pool that afternoon and evening.  I’ve started stockpiling beer at the house. I was thinking about getting my son to help us cater some pizzas from the restaurant he works at (Barros for the locals reading). All of that would be complementary for all BYOAC friends and family.

In past years we have been able to get into the convention center on Friday evening. ZapCon has been very generous with us. I’m not sure that will happen this year; we shouldn’t count on that but if it happens I’ll really enjoy that. So if you want maximum arcade time then a trip to Starfighters is in order.

Or we could do some combination of the two.  I really don’t want to tie everyone down to a rigid schedule. ZapCon is about fun; I don’t want to overthink or overplan it.

Give me some feedback and let’s see what the group wants to do. And if there is anything I can do locally to help your ZapCon plans let me know.
