Multi Games xxxx in one/Pandora's box resolution.

Just a quick question on those Pandoras box or xxx games in one, do they just plug into the jamma connector and work on the crt like any game board, once you set the h/v width/height amplitude do all the games then just get stretched/shrunk to fit the screen? are they any good? good/bad points?

I purchased an arcade vga & j-pac years back, I was going to run mame, but never got round to it. In all honesty I think a multi games thingy would be a better option, I only want to play a few games ghosts n goblins/wonderboy etc and I want to buy them on real pcb's also, but I guess it's easier if you can just fire it up and choose the game.

They are a solid ok, but what you think is going to depend on your expectations, your level of commitment to authenticity, and the types of games you like. What they definitely are is easy and inexpensive.

Thanks, I personally like to run PCB's I just have a few favourites and don't mind changing them out once in a while, but might be a good idea to get some kind of box for the kids, should be relatively easy to just swap the jamma harness over from one to the other :-)

Apologies if it breaks any forum rules asking about such devices, but if its allowed can anyone recommend a good xxx in one/Pandora etc, that just plugs into the jamma harness runs from the arcade psu and works with the CRT?

Ideally mostly just horizontal platform games for the kids, Bubble Bobble/Wonder Boy/Ghost's n' Goblins etc, I'll most likely buy them on real pcb,s also but you know what kids are like they want to change games all the time.

I have one that came with a Candy Cab I bought. It works great to keep the kids that come to my arcade occupied with their shorter attention spans. They don't care how accurate the emulation is.

While the cost is a bit more,  the ARpiCADE is a worthy consideration.

I'm not a big fan of the Pandora's Box units... though they ARE better than the xx-in-1 garbage that is out there.

Thanks for that, didn't know about ARPICADE, it looks really good, the price is a bit steep though, I want to spend a bit getting my cabinet sorted first, but that looks like a good idea in the near future :-)

Just curious though what is it that people don't like about those Pandora's?

I actually bought a J-pac and arcade-vga a few years back I spent ages tweaking the Mamewah front end on an an older pc I had running windows 7, but I had so many issues, I kept loosing sync couldn't get the resolution to work properly, my psu failed the monitor had interference and eventually the pc died so I ripped it out and bought a game pcb, turns out most of my issues wer actually my monitoir/psu/and a faulty j-pac which Andy kindly replaced, but I just didn't have the heart/patience/time to buy a new pc and set it all up again, does anyone still use front end/jpac/vga setup?

Lack of individual game options.  Screen tearing.  Spotty emulation (game dependent).  Limited menu.  The typical stuff you get with an all-in-one Chinese MAME multigame.

Anyone played the King of Air / Air Attack boards?  I'm considering getting one for my 60 in 1 bartop.  Might be fun to change it up a little.

You can often times find the King of Air as a separate "image" for PB4.   It's OK... not many games to the list.... again... you get what you pay for and these are pretty cheap.  If you're OK with a 60-in-1,  you'll likely be fine with the King of Air.

I can't say directly but what you want to look for with PB units is the processor, not how big the game list is (some of the newer units let you add your own games anyhow). Currently the best model has:

CPU Quad-core Cortex-A7 1.2GHz
GPU Mali400MP2@600MHz

If you've only seen the older models (PB4 and earlier) these new ones run much better / faster. Most of the clones of the PB are still using the older hardware however so even though they have 2000+ games on them many of the games barely run.

For that price might as well try it- This uses a standard Jamma or?
