R-90 stuck front door lock mechanism
« on: May 02, 2019, 09:11:40 am »
I am in the process of acquiring a Rowe R-90 and I would like to remove the carousel for transportation but the key will not turn in order to open the top lid. WD-40 has been tried but still no luck.
The jukebox has been in a finished basement for years and not subjected to moisture, so corrosion should be minimal.
The owner says the correct key is being used and has opened the lid in the past to change records, but not for many years.

Any suggestions short of drilling out the lock assembly?

Update:

I have since done some research on the lock assembly.
I now believe that the lock and key are not the problem, but what they are connected to.
The lock turns a pivot with rigid wire links that in turn pull on a release mechanism.
I believe that it is these release mechs that are stuck or frozen.
How do I gain access to the inside without destroying the top or front door?
It appears that drilling the lock will have no effect on the lockbar mechanism.
I do not have a picture or sketch of the R-90 lock mech, can someone accurately describe it to me?
Any help would be appreciated before I do bad things.....
