Magnetically centering an UltraStik?

Have you seen anyone use two opposing ring magnets to replace the spring in an Ultrastik? I searched and didn't see anything obvious, though I'd be glad to be proven wrong...
I get some of the obvious mechanical points; I imagine I'd need a larger inner diameter ring with a nylon sleeve to reduce magnet rubbing on the shaft, at a minimum. But I'm more interested in how modifying the local field may interfere with the Hall sensor and the design assumptions of the board.
Thoughts?

Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Considering the way U360s work, I don't think adding magnets is a good idea.

Both magnets could interfere each other so it's not good idea.

The spring isn't the issue, but the axial design. It's good enough lubricated with a light oil. A very small drop on your finger spread on the underside of the pivot ball, the upper part of the shaft, and the washers will do.
