State of the art 2018
« on: November 19, 2018, 11:27:54 am »
Hi everyone, it's been 10+ years since I built my cab and I'm looking to update/upgrade. Specifically, I'm wondering what the best/latest/greatest of the following are:

joysticks (I play both 8 way and 4 way games but I find my 8 way joysticks don't play well on 4 way games)
buttons/led (I'm using LedBlinky to light my buttons but I think there might be better multi-color LED button options on the market today)
groovymame? (I'm using a CRT tv - works fine running via S-Video out on my ATI PC gfx card but I'm not using groovymame - am I missing anything good?)
trackball (I'm using a Happ USB trackball but it has stopped working on 1 axis - I may need to upgrade or buy new boards)

Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks in advance - hopefully this will also help newbies looking to start. There's a LOT of info on these boards and it's sometimes hard to find specific info/guides.

For groovymame info there is plenty of ducumentation at http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=50
For a short - with groovymame You will get native (or very close) resolutions (just like in original cabs) on Your TV. But You need CRT TV/monitor with RGB input/output and proper Radeon card. Very recommended for people that looks for authentic arcade feel.

For a joystick I prefer Ultimarc U360 - programmable analog/digital stick which can be programmed also as 8 way or 4 way only. Quite suitable for me.
