q-Do I need to use both GNDs on the KeyWiz?
« on: February 06, 2004, 04:39:54 pm »
Quick, I only need to connect the daisy chain at one end to the GND on the KeyWiz right? Would it help/hurt if I connected both ends to the GND (since there are two)

Thanks,
Vio

Yes, you only need to connect one end of the ground loop to the keywiz GND.

Not sure which question you are asking so I'll rephrase -

If you mean "My KeyWiz has two GND terminals, do I use both of them, or does it matter?" The answer is "Electrically, they both go to the same place, so it doesn't matter."

If you mean, "After I daisy-chain my ground wire to each of my buttons, do I then run the far end back to the KeyWiz again?  I.E., do I make a string or a Lasso?"
Here are the considerations:

Your panel will work fine with the string method, trouble-shooting will be easy, because should the ground wire break, all buttons "downwind" of the break will stop working.

However, if you use the "Lasso" method, you could completely cut the ground wire at any point and your panel would still work.  You wouldn't see any problems until you had two breaks in the wire, and even then only the buttons between the breaks would stop working.

I daisy chained my ground wire and connected it to a single gnd terminal with no problems whatsoever.
