Did anyone ever build some Vindicator-style controls?
« on: February 05, 2004, 02:13:07 pm »
I love that game but it's only half the fun without the right controller. So i thought about hacking apart a few joysticks and building one myself. Unfortunately i've never done anything like that before so i was hoping to find some inspiration here.

Oh man, what a great game, the Pizza Hut in my town had that game up until just a few years ago. Perhaps you could build one with two sepperate two way joysticks.

It's on my "to-do" list.

Here's a page to get you started, if you're ready.
1UP's Dual Tron Panel

You don't need to use the real Tron sticks, but the how-to gives you alot of good tips that should work well getting most any of the trigger-style tops hacked onto a Super base.
I think he used to have a Raider-Pro hacked onto one, before he got the Tron repros.

I did a very similar hack using a Saitek ST-220 top, and a Happ Competition base.
I am planning to do another one soon, but haven't gotten my modular panel going yet.
I don't want to have to do TWO more to make a Vindicator panel.

I know its not the same as the original, but i have a psx->usb adaptor, and a few months ago came across a toyshop that was selling the Playstation Analogue Joystick really cheap (dont actually know anyone who bought these things at full price), and it works good for Vindicators and Assault. The good thing about this vs 2x 2ways, is that assault requires left/right movement of each joystick as well.
