Help needed - SNES Ascii pad behaves very strangely
« on: January 27, 2018, 10:46:54 am »
Mate of mine gave me an old Ascii-pad he found in a thrift shop. First I thought it was completely broken, but it turns out that out of all buttons, one (the B-button) still works: if you press it, the pad behaves as if all buttons are pressed. (used Windows 7 and a cheap SNES/ USB-converter to pinpoint the problem, but as far as I could see, when I plugged it into my SNES the problem was the same).

Took a look inside, and apart from lots of dirt everything (switches, contacts etc.) it looks ok. Anybody got any idea what might be wrong?

Have you tried a light sand paper on the button contact? My nes controller looked fine but it wasnt until i sanded it that it started working correctly.

Sand the contacts, wipe down the pcb with lighter fluid.  If it doesnít work after that itís either the controller or your adapter at fault.

This forum needs more threads about Arcade 1Up cabinets.

Damn. I cleaned the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of the sucker, sanded the contacts etc. but to no avail, it behaves exactly like it did before I tried fixing it. Oh well, you can't win 'em all...
