Finally starting my MAME project
« on: February 01, 2004, 02:35:22 pm »
Finally!

A friend of mine is getting married, and his wife didn't want his video games in their new house, so he gave them both to me. They're old games though...Tempest and Defender. Both games worked, but I want to play more than just two games, so I decided to merge them into one machine that will play EVERYTHING!

I like the way the Tempest one looked, so that's the one I used for my main cabinet, but there werent' enough controls on it, so I took all of the controls out of the Defender cabinet.

Sadly, since I live in an apartment I only had room for one cabinet, so I had to kind of hack up the Defender one to fit it all in the dumpster.

Some of the hardest work was getting the decals off of the Tempest...since I want a machine that will play all games (MAME), I dont want any art that signifies it as just one game. So off to the dumpster went the side decals and the lighted glass thing on top, and the pc boards, etc.

Anyway...hopefully soon I'll have pics of my new improved MAME game!!

I'm sure glad you didn't let anyone bully you in to preserving that crap. I had a few people cry about spraypainting that crappy "I, Robot" game mauve and putting a HUGE control panel on it that could play every game I wanted (they had the nerve to call it a "Frankenpanel", whatever that means. It plays Wild Western and Marvel VS Street Fighter like a champ, though).

Welcome to the hobby is all I can say. Remember, the bigger the panel, the more stuff you can play. You can even put a HUGE Dance Dance revolution pad on the floor and dance the night away. That's what I do. I am swell with the ladies now.

I certainly hope you were kidding.  The color vector monitor on the Tempest is worth big bucks.  You could have sold both games and had a ton of loot.
