For a game like track and field, it requires that you repeatedly and quickly tap the buttons.

Now, for the beat mania games, there are cases where you would need to tap the buttons quickly also.

Now my problem, not sure if its related in both games (mentioned above), but I am able to play track and field fine.  But with beatmania, when I press a unique button(meaning, just one specific button) quickly and repeatedly, some strokes don't register, so I get "misses" in-game.  For those beatmania junkies, I can't pass the first dj scratch level, of the first beatmania game,  without having misses(since some key strokes aren't registering).  Anyone know what the problem is and also a cure?

The reason you're having trouble passing the dj battle is that there are actually two buttons for the turntable. When playing with the actual controller you move the turntable both up and down to do the quick passages. In the controls setup both button 6 and 7 are for the turn table. Pick two different keys, and alternate in rhythm and you should see a difference.

Just curious.. What layout are you, or others for that matter, using for beatmania in mame?

Oh.  I did notice that there was a button "6" and "7" in the button config.  Thanks.

I have a CP with the street fighter setup so I setup up those buttons like this:

1   2   3
O  O  O
O  O  O
4   5   6

4-Button1 (White Key)
1-Button2 (Black Key)
5-Button3 (White Key)
2-Button4 (Black Key)
6-Button5 (White Key)

3-Button6 (Scratch)

Tried to lay it out like the original piano/record controller.  Ah well, it works for the most part.
