Seems the switches are failing in my joystick...
« on: October 28, 2017, 02:43:27 pm »
Hey Everyone,

Newbie slowly learning the ropes...  I have a Dream Arcade where I replaced the joysticks w/ ServoStiks and am using a new computer with Launchbox on the front end.

I've been ABSOLUTELY loving it....having the joysticks automatically change from 8 way to 4 way for the appropriate games is awesome.

Last night playing Donkey Kong, I noticed I had a hard time going up at times...little Mario would just pause for a moment...  never had that issue before...

Does this mean some of the switches are failing on the joystick?  Do they fail easily?  Though I've been playing it a lot, I don't think it's been that much in comparison to what I expect a commercial stick to withstand.

If it is the switches, where do you recommend I buy some replacements and what brand?

Thinking I can switch this stick out w/ my 2 player stick that really doesn't get used...at least temporarily....

Thanks in advance for your help!

You're a GENIUS!  Turns out the wire to the up switch on that joystick was indeed falling off a bit!  Thanks so much for helping me out!

Switch failures are relatively rare. It is totally normal for a 30 year old game that saw 10 years in the arcade to still have all the original switches.

microswitches have like a 10 million actuations lifetime. Going to be good for a while.

Sometimes you have to bend the lever on the switch a little.  That's about it...

The chances of things coming loose increases with a servo stick since it has moving parts.  Make sure the wires are not touching any of the moving parts, which may pull them out.
