Hpw to set up Mame and monitor with JPAC
« on: January 30, 2004, 01:21:48 am »
If I'm using J-pac with my jamma cabinet and arcade monitor, how do I set up the PC?  Windows won't work on the monitor and can damage it I was told, so I need to use a version of DOS?  Does USB work in DOS?  And if I have the latest version of ROM's do these work in the older versions of Mame and the DOS ones or do I need certain ROM's depending on the version?  Thanks

To display on the monitor you will need either an arcadevga or a regular video card with advmame.  I put some links in the FAQ in the monitor section to explain this in a bit more detail.  Windows will work on most arcade monitors but at a lower resolution--say 640x480  If you know your monitor you can ask first to see if anyone else has done it, thereby eliminating any chance of blowing it up (a little dramatic but you get the idea).  The latest roms will work with the latest mame--as you get older more and more games will drop from working to non-working becasue of changes in drivers etc.  Best bet is to either find an older build or make one using clrmamepro.

now you are about to ask--how do i do that?  I know sort of but not well enough to walk you through it--if you really want to know just ask.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I had great success with fraggals boot cd and the j-pac.

Get it here:
http://mame.how.to/

I had even better success letting the boot cd install everything and then going into dos and removing advance mame and replacing it with mame 37b dos. System used micronPC 450mhz PII ATI mach64 video card. Mach64's sell for $2 at used pc stores.
Curls in the squat rack !?!?!
