happ trackball to ipac

ok start with the concept that i am a total idiot and need this answer in small clear words


started building a control panel 10 years ago life got in the way just getting back to it


just bought an ipac 2 my board has a happ trackball no idea of model it has 10 wires coming off it 2 bundles of 4  and 2 separate heavier gauge green wires     what is my pinout to molex connector for ipac   and do i need to run separate power   i have looked everywhere and am just getting more confused

help please an idiot in his quest

the 2 heavy green wires are earth ground
the other wires are dc+ red
                            dc - black
the other 4 wires are your x and y axis outputs
on my happ track ball new style (open frame) using the red sensor boards
as follows
purple  @ blue =1 axis
green  @ yellow = 1 axis

The two heavier gauge wires are frame ground.
- They bleed off the static charge generated by the rolling trackball.
- Connect them to ground like the case of the power supply.

You don't need a separate power connection.

The two bundles of 4 wires contain:
- 5v (red)
- Ground (black)
- Two data lines X1/X2 or Y1/Y2 (purple/blue or yellow/green)

The 8 wires go to the 0.1" (Dupont) pins labeled "trackball". (left center)



If your trackball has an arcade-style Molex (white 6-pin below) harness instead of one with 0.1" (Dupont) connectors, GGG carries a Trackball Cable for Opti-Wiz™ "No-Solder" that replaces the molex harness.



The replacement cable plugs into the optical "red boards" on the trackball and has Dupont pins on the other end.

The image above shows an Opti-Wiz, but the trackball cable will work the same way for your I-Pac2 -- just lift the tiny lever and pull the female Dupont ground pin out of the 5v/ground Dupont housing since 5v and ground aren't on adjacent pins.

Troubleshooting:
If an axis is reversed, swap the data lines for that axis.
i.e.  If moving the trackball right moves the mouse cursor left, swap the X-axis data lines (purple and blue wires)

Can the Happ trackball used as a mouse with the ipac2?

Yes, a Happ arcade-style trackball (the kind with a 6-pin Molex, not the kind with the Happ PS/2 or USB encoder ) + I-Pac works exactly like a mouse.

The I-Pac firmware shows up as a USB HID Mouse device so it will work with any system that has a generic USB mouse driver.

Of course, this assumes that you have a 2015 or newer I-Pac with the trackball optical input pins. (pictured above)

Not sure if reviving this was the best thing to do, but the subject is exactly what I need.

I have a Global VR Arcade Classics cabinet that used a usblinx II (jamma) and converting it to use an ipac 2


I have connected everything and testing the buttons (all work great) just now onto the trackball. getting nothing from it.

The connection i have is pictured above. the red boards to a 4 pin molex (x2) and these go into a 6 pin connection.

These then went into the usblinx II

following the pinout diagram properly i rewired them appropriately into a dupont connector.

On the ipac 2 the dupont pinout says there are 2 5v pins.

I only have one connected as both 5v wires from the 2 red boards are connected together in the 6 pin connector.

is it a case of having two separate 5v pins into the ipac 2? or is it another reason why its not working?
EDIT -

I connected the separate 5v line, but still nothing, turns out the ipac 2 is set to xinput mode! the only thing now is figuring out how to have the controls act like an xbox controller (using back and start to exit) and have the trackball work like a mouse!
I needed to swap around the X and Y connections as they were wired in reverse for the usblinx
