control button layout
« on: January 28, 2004, 11:48:26 am »
I am on my third generation control panel solution.  I am a Street Fighter and Neo Geo fan, so when I was trying to figure out the best layout for the buttons, I was looking at a few other examples.  Then I ran across the MAME - Game Not Over custom controller ( http://www.runriot.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/arcade/ ) and I was blown away by the simplicity and effectiveness.  Rather than the common X-Arcade or SlikStik layout which is:
   4  5  6
   1  2  3
7
Game Not Over's layout is
   1  2  3  4
   4  5  6
The X-Arcade's layout requires that all Capcom fighters and Neo-Geo games be remapped in MAME, whereas the above configuration does not.

So I'm wondering, is there anyone else out there that uses this layout?  Is there a reason why most common commercial products do not?  Just wondering what peoples' general opinions are.  Thanks!

This is the layout I'm doing for my cab.  My wife and I like the 4 button layout for the Neo-Geo games instead of the other.
 ;D

but hey, that's just us...

Hi,

Mine isn't finished yet, but I'm going to use this layout
http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=13087 and why ? Because you have a Neo Geo design on top and a Capcom design ... it's kinda two in one ... anyway it's a matter of taste, I believe  ;D
