k, heres the link to a cab that kinda replicating. http://www.arcadegameover.com/mameproject.html my question is, does anyone know what the official name of this style of cab is called? the reason im asking is that i was hoping i could search for it or something on klov.com or somewhere. i want to see some more control panels for these types of cabs, and see how wide people are making them. right now, mine is 49" (the width of a sheet of mdf) but im still having to angle my 3rd and 4th players and i was wondering if i made it bigger, would that be too big, etc.? so back to my original question, does anyone know where i can find more examples of this type of cab?

You might consider waiting more than a few hours before you decide no one is answering...

It's a pedestal or showcase cab I believe they're called. Gauntlet Legends came in those sometimes I think. JoseQ got one made for him by Hanaho as well. http://www.emuviews.com/.

another question though....how wide should my cp be? i mean, i want to be able to play smash tv with two players, so as ive heard the joysticks dont need to be angled too much. well as i have right now, my cp is 49" (i have a trackball in the middle) and the end joysticks have to be angled. so how wide do you think i should make my cp? how wide is too wide?

I like the design. Just an idea to throw around. If you had your intire control panel and base swapable usina db25 pin connectors you could swap in 2 homeade dance pads and get some really nice DDR playing out of that setup. Just something I thought of. I have seen them around but I can't think of any examples.

How many players do you want to house and with what controls. 55" is pretty big.

I'm acctually not a ddr fan either.

it will be a 4 player cp with a trackball in the middle. right now my cp is 49" but i still have to angle the joysticks and have heard that in order to play smash tv correctly, thats not a good thing. so im wanting to straighten the controls out as much as possible on the third and fourth players.

Well if you have a big monitor and can straighten the controls out from what ive heard it is alot better then being angled. 4 a four player cab with straight sides 55" wouldn't be to unreasonable it just depends on how it will look in your house and where you are going to put it. Also if YOU like how it looks and feels. I would suggest making a mock up if you are unsure.

yeah, well 55" i just threw out there. i thought another 6 inches would help things a little (heh). unfortunately i dont have lots of cardboard laying around to make a mockup. what ive been doing is taking the joystick/trackball stensils like lusid used, and taping them in place where they will be on the cp. the tv will be 27" so im thinking that wont be too bad for the 3rd and fourth players if they are out pretty far. i mean, its 3 inches coming out on either side so that should allow me to angle it a little less. your thoughts?

Actually, 49" is too big. You would be hard pressed to find even a 4-player showcase cabinet with a panel that wide. Most are much narrower (many 4-player games had panels that were under 3 feet).

Showcase cabinets are really common. Go out and find one and measure the panel.

Also, do not angle the joysticks for player 3 and 4, period. It is unnatural, real games don't do it, and it will kill your ability to play 2 player smash TV.

Another reason not to angle player 3 and 4 is that you are going to be more often playing only 1 or 2 player games and the few times that you DO play 4 players you can just bear with the crapping of people a bit. Hey it's just like an old arcade all crammed together to play

okay, well the whole reason i was making it bigger was to accomodate for the third and fourth players so that they could be straightened out more. so i guess im just gonna really have to cram them in right? just sacrifice the space and cram them in?

yeah i know, i guess ill just have to cram the 3rd and 4th players in real close. another option i considered would be to move the trackball up. right now its in the middle of the cp dividing the 2 players in the middle. i want to have it mainly for golden tee and marble madness. do you think it would make playing golden tee difficult if i moved the trackball up above the 2 players, so i could squeeze them in a little? it would above the 1st players buttons a little, and above the second players joystick. however i know that i need room and cant just have the trackball above the joystick, then i couldnt play correctly. so it would just kind of bring in the controls some. but would this make playing golden tee difficult?

Okay, trying to get a feel for what you're doing, I just measured 49 inches on my desk. That is one serious chunk of real estate you have to work with there. I can't imagine how you're having problems fitting a four player layout plus a trackball into that amount of space. It looks like you have enough room for every control in the world!

maybe you are laying it out differently than me. when i lay it out, theres not enough room for the third and fourth players not to be angled. how are you laying it out???

Now you have to understand that this isn't a real scientific approach I'm using here. I measured out 49 inches on my desk and then I used highlighters to represent the joysticks, paperclips for buttons.

Any way I arrange them there looks like acres of room to spare. Of course you may want to conside that I'm currently building a CP that has two 8 ways with four buttons each and a four way in the center all on a 23 inch wide panel.

well my first and second players have 7 buttons each, and the other 2 have 4 buttons each. maybe i just need to squeeze in the controls right up next to the mounting plate. maybe that will allow for more room. oh well, more than likely it will be 2 people playing at once, rather than 4, but i want the option of course! when i get home tonight ill move the controls around and see what i come up with. ill take a pic just in case you want to look at it

You and I had similiar ideas about a 4-player control panel. notice mind is 56" wide since I did not want to angle the 3/4 player joysticks to much either. I like playing two player Karate Champ which requires player1 and player2 to both use two joysticks. My configuration works fine.

Monitor is a 27" JVC television.

I got the 4-player coin door by trolling Ebay sellers of other stuff. Simply sent mails to tons of people and got someone to bite. Very nice person. Sold me a fully functional 4-slotted coin door including shipping for a total of $32.

Your right.....never went inside the coin door itself but I could not just have a hole there. It needed a lock. Also, I do not keep the key hanging out of the coin door at all. Probably just forgot to take it out when taking the pic.
