Where to get quality USB NES controllers?
« on: June 06, 2017, 08:35:12 pm »
I bought a usb NES (classic) controller on Amazon years ago. To this day, it's awesome. Now I want another one and everything I order is crap. I've ordered 4 USB NES controllers and they've all been junk. Either the buttons are super stiff, or something doesn't work. Anyone know where to get one?

I ordered 1 off Amazon, 2 off ebay, and 1 off Aliexpress.

Have you looked at 8bitdo controllers? I hear they are good quality, but a little pricey.

It's more of a Famicon controller with extra buttons, but the Buffalo controllers are supposed to be really good: https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-iBuffalo-Classic-Gamepad-BGCFC801RDA/dp/B000TW9AFU/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1496849381&sr=1-3&keywords=buffalo+nes+controller

Have you tried the nes to usb adapters? Don't know how well they work but there's nothing like an authentic nes controller

im gonna agree with Gojira, Buffalo are the best. Certainly feel as close to the originals as I can remember Lewis :afro:

Awesome.... so, does this recommendation for Buffalo extend to even this joystick:

https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-iBuffalo-Classic-Gamepad-BSGP815GY/dp/B06XWD8QQJ/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1496880265&sr=1-2&keywords=buffalo+nes+controller

reviews seem good. Suspiciously good. Maybe too good.

i had that pad a year ago, that exact one. then it disappeared( i think i accidentally threw it away in a mistaken junk pile) DOH. I loved it.  I'd definitely buy straight from Buffalo like you posted, there have been fakes.

I've got an 8bitdo SNES controller.  I've never actually used it for anything but it feels nice.

I picked up two of the 8Bitdo Nes30Pros and they are comfortable as PBJ stated.  The only set back I have found is that the bluetooth connectivity is fair.  Hard to connect but once it is found there are no problems.  I prefer the 8 ft cable they give you.  No connectivity issues with the cable and it gives you the nostalgic feel.

Just checked the price also and they went up $10 from the $32 I paid two years ago.  I will say this.  For the price you pay durability alone should be a selling point.  I travel a lot for work and I have mine thrown in a computer bag with no case and over the past two years of constant travel they have shown no signs of wear.

leapinlew - Yes, the IBuffalo SNES controllers you linked are great - I've had a pair of them for about 2 years. They have a solid feel, good weight, etc. With my eyes closed I couldn't tell them from the original except for the turbo button which is an awesome addition. I think it makes a lot of games more playable (especially shmups) and saves you about a billion button mashes.

I’ve got an adapter for plugging a real NES controller into USB.  It works great, I sometimes bring it with me to run emulators on my tablet when I travel.  I think the company is called “Tomee” or something like that… it's a great solution if you have controllers already or can find some reasonably priced originals that are in good shape.  If you have a real NES (as I do) it's nice to have a way to use the same controller for both the real console and the emulator (less junk hanging around).  The adapter was cheap… I want to say $10-$12.

I've got the same - let's me use my NES Advantage joystick on the pc - they also sell the ones for SNES systems as well for about $15.

Hello fellow business traveller carrying Buffalo SNES controllers around the country on business trips!  I don't find huge occasion to use them, but I always carry two, and when you find the perfect opportunity to whip out both and play some Super Mario at a moment's notice, it lights up a room!

I have a couple and they work fantastic.  You're right, there is nothing quite like an authentic NES controller. :)
