Xin mo joystick issues.

Hi all. I'm relatively new to all this so can someone help me? I recently built a Bartop cabinet for my pc which has mame installed. It's an old system running on Windows ME. Everything works fine. I built the cabinet out of my old computer desk. As I noticed that the side panels were very similar to the profile of a cab. So I thought, what the hell.
It looks pretty good considering.
Anyway...I purchased the Xin Mo dual usb controller. Wired the unit up as described on various diagrams which are all identical. All buttons work great once confirmed. My problem here is with joysticks. In the control panel they will not idle at the centre. And all movements are either wrong or exaggerated. It will sometimes also mix up controllers in calibration. In game mode the character will move right automatically. In mame configuration screen the cursor will go up automatically. I'm not sure what's going on. I also have no knowledge about accessing or changing command lines etc. So I need serious help. Thanks in advance.

You may need to double-check your wiring. You may have a ground wire connected to the wrong terminal on one or more of the joystick's switches - if a ground is inverted it can cause the sticking/erratic input issues you describe.

What kind of sticks are you using?

Hi thanks for the reply. I will check the wiring, but I'm sure I wired it correctly. I have also tried another usb cable with no change. As I said. The buttons work perfectly. So whatever is wrong. It can't be much. I also need help with the controls being memorised by mame. As in I need to know how you access comm and lines etc... thanks.

BTW.  The joysticks are Zippy.

Make sure that the joystick switches are wired properly - it's the easiest thing to check and the most likely source of the problem you describe. It is possible to have an issue with just one or a couple of switches with no effect on the other inputs. A problem with one or a couple of sticking inputs usually points directly to an issue at the interface of those specific inputs.



I'm a little unclear on what you mean by MAME memorizing the controls. You can map the inputs either by using the 'TAB' key menu > Input (General) or Input (This Machine) while running MAME, or via ctrlr.ini / mapdevice configuration: http://docs.mamedev.org/advanced/devicemap.html

Ok. I have wired and re-wired the Xin mo board. Even used 2 separate os's. The same problem occurs. Buttons are fine. However, the joysticks positions are always in the top left hand corner in control panel, joystick calibration screen. These movements also have varying values.
To top it off in tried to test it on my laptop with windows 10, but since I moved from windows 7 my laptop no longer recognises the dvd/CD drive. Having a complete mare!!!

Even with no joysticks attached the board still shows the pointer stuck in the top left corner.

This sounds like a wiring issue to me to.

Try pulling the inputs off the stick switches and see what happens. If all ok plug them back in 1 by 1.

Hopefully that will point you in the right direction.

Possibly a faulty switch etc.

Issue seemed to be the Os'so I had tried. With windows 10 everything worked tickety boo! Joysticks worked and are centred within calibration settings. Although I didn't really need to checknow them, as the joysticks worked inside the UI instantly. It may also have been down to the fact that my original mame was a really old version. Anyhow. Thanks for the replies. Time to enjoy!

i have an another issue, on startup somethimes p1 keys are swapped with p2 keys,why?

Bumping this old post to see if any solution was found. I am having the same problem, I've plugged in my Xin-Mo Controller and I've gone to Control Panel > Set up USB game controllers. When I click on the controller properties, the x- and z-axis on the joystick is always on one of the corners. I tried disconnecting the joystick from the board, leaving nothing connected to the board but the problem persists. Any idea what it could be?

I'd recommend plugging the just controller into the PC then watching what the Windows device properties shows as you connect each connection on the controller to the USB shell (which should be ground).
