  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Need help desperately
« on: May 20, 2017, 11:18:59 pm »
I purchased a fix-it Felix jr arcade game last year for my sons' birthdays and the hard drive has failed. I was able to retrieve the game from the original hard drive. The previous computer ran windows xp and I have installed it on a computer that runs windows xp as well. The computer recognizes the xin-mo controller however when the game starts a window saying "no joystick attached" pops up. I am not very tech savvy and was hoping someone could help me save this game for my sons. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the game to help. Off the top of my head I wonder: does the xin -mo work in anything else?

Was there an event that caused the machine to stop working (like a lightning strike)?

First off, where did you get the game originally?  Sounds like it is missing some files. Like joy to key.  Then it reminded me of Howard's awesome wrapper.  I think this thread will help.  I don't know if you will need a new key for the game, if it is the same one, I'm thinking it is....

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Easiest way:
Try it with just the computer keyboard first.  Note which keys do what.  If it works just buy an ipac2 which is a keyboard encoder.  http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html

A bit harder:
It's probably not set up for joystick inputs.  You'll need to figure out which config file has the joystick=on or similar type option.
