Wanted t-mount slot router bit in UK
« on: March 24, 2017, 08:26:03 am »
Hiya

I imagine that a lot of people have got a t-mount slot router bit that they bought and have used one or twice and now it lies alone, lonely in some toolbox somewhere. If so, I would like to give it a home, until the next person needs one.

Maybe this needs to be a community resource that travels around the UK cutting slots for people.

just so you know, some t-mouldings have slightly different sizes of splines in them requiring different sizes of slots to be cut...and size is VERY important here.

it's best to match the t-moulding you have (or plan to buy) otherwise you will have a very loose fit (requiring glue all along the spline to stay in place) or a very tight fit (resulting in splitting the 2 faces of the wood away from each other)

places like www.t-molding.com tell you what size bit you need for a given purchase of moulding.

some are 0.0625 (1/16" or 1.5875 mm) but we've recently purchased some moulding the resulted in us having to buy a slot cutter at 0.0781 (5/64" or 1.9844) because the spline was wider and was splitting the wood apart.
