GOLDEN TEE 05 TABLE TOP UNIT QUESTIONS
« on: February 17, 2017, 09:46:05 am »
So I am going to start by apologizing, I am new here and a nube to the arcade world. Now that that is done.....here is my questions for the group. I have a Golden Tee table top unit, green board, also have an 06 complete hard drive and chip as extra. My CRT monitor went bad and was literally shooting lightening bolts out of the back of the unit. The sparks were hitting everything metal in the cabinet. I removed the monitor and installed a LCD that I had laying around, installed the converter, I also replaced the power supply due to the event and the age of the unit. I started the unit up and the monitor works but the game doesn't fully load. I ran the test mode by hitting the start button while starting up and it tells me that I have a board failure. I assume that means that the mother board didn't make it! So now on to the main question... What do I do with a table top golden tee game that has some new parts and a bad mother board that is a bit on the pricey side. I have no problem putting money into the game, I just want to do it so I can benefit the most. Should I spend $250 on a new 05 green board? Should I budget that money towards something newer? Can I even go with something newer? What would you do?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not much into repairing these boards, but perhaps ed12 can help you out. he knows more about the ins and outs. maybe you have just a bad security chip or something.

really it's up to you. if the board is toast and you want to continue playing that version of the game, then replace it. (can get a board and drive set for ~300.00 with everything you need off ebay)

JAMMA kits with new nighthawk computer systems and everything you need to convert an old golden tee machine to a new one are available... but they are on the very pricey side. (about 3000.00 to start) and at that price point you might as well buy a brand new machine with brand new software for 3600.00

noob is foregiven
lets start right here
what EXACTLEY will the board do or not do..and please not a use term like i do not know..
i mean what do u mean by game will not load >board failure? < as u have me baffeled??
the green/ red boards BIOS never had that statment in its os.that i have ever seen.
here is a short list of things it wil or will not do
will not load game..answer how far dose it get ?
board loads but stalls at loading s/w answer what game rom is in it ? u15=game rom = should be egale 2.09
board loads but says wrong serial key. answer = u53 security chip
board loads but i get a red screen. answer = u61 security key mismatch >fix change it back to a 2005 not a complete<
these are a general list of questions i would ask and expect u to have an answer for
or any other of the techs that work on these will ask u

Thank you for the responses. When I turn the game on, it loads and detects the hard drive and then stalls. Then the same cycle will happen. Like I stated before, when I hold the start button when starting up, it will go through its scans. Written in red print states that there is a board failure. I am not in front of the game at this very second but I can be this weekend and try to get a video of the issue. Hope this helps

i bet what u see as board failure is in reality
red screen of death
this is caused because the serial # in u53 >sercurity chip for game "os" dose not match the board serial # in u61
easy fix is to put the 2005 software back on the harddrive.
what is the # on the top of u15?
gt?-usa-xx
or
gt?-can-xx
lets start there

Starting off with the answer to your U15 question... "EAGLE U15 V2.09 2005 IT, INC"

Now my apologies.... It will only do it with the 2006 hard drive installed. With the 2005 hard drive installed, it works just fine. I am sorry, I was thinking that I had all the original parts installed. Makes your comments about security all make sense now. Can this 06 hard drive work? What will need to be done to make it work? I was on the understanding that as long as I was running V 2.09 I was good???

Thank you for your patience.

hi
i ment no dis..i just get tired of beening told this that and the other thing..
to make your board work with "complete" there is 2 steps u need to take
a=u53 must say gt4c-usa-u
for canada it is gt4c-can-u
where the usa/can is country code
where gt4c=golden tee 4 complete :c:
along with your "complete image on your harddrive.
now with that in hand and tried if u still get red screen of death ? then u will need a specail .bin i have that u can program into your u61 which will totaly fix the issuie.
btw, egale 2.09 is the main board boot rom. what 2.09 dose is open up the resterction itgamming placed on the harddrive size
ie : 20meg verus any size

Thank you very much Ed for all your help. I'll look into what you have advised if I want complete to fully work.

Thank you again! You have been a great and patient resource.
