  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
So a few years ago I ordered a bunch of Cherry D44x thinking they were what was used in arcade games I played 25-15 years ago. I even had ordered some buttons (with Cherries, model kwja I think) around 17 years ago. The D44x, however, require relatively much more force to activate. It feels like they require just a little too much to go over the hill so to speak. Went to an old arcade and while I can't see their switches, they felt easier to press to. Are the new D44xs something that will break in and be easier over time?

So I'm really looking for a replacement in feel. But I don't want to get rid of the click nor do I want it to feel like there is no microswitch at all.
I see Zippy 20g and 50g light touch microswitches. Would either of these work?

The funny thing is, I did a search for this thinking this was a new topic for me to research. It turns out I had posted about it 3 years ago, same exact question basically. No responses though :P I had no recollection of posting that. I guess that goes to show if I had amnesia I'd repeat myself. t

the D44x are 75g and suck yep.  too heavy.

cherry D42X should be ideal for you (30g)

or the 20g zippy microswitches will be fine also

Ah you're a lifesaver. Do the 20G Zippys also click? I don't want a silent switch or one that doesn't offer ANY pressure at all. Thanks.

Yes, the Zippy 20g switches do click and have discernible actuation force.
