****PLEASE HELP****Mame - Ipac4 weird problem
« on: January 27, 2017, 08:46:45 am »
Hi guys,

I have a weird problem I really would to get resolved with my custom built system, I am new here so please bare with me,

I have an iPac4 configuration running through my computer, all wired up correctly, but what I'm finding is that when I play games such as track and field, the buttons don't respond well e.g the game has a two button running system, were I would normally have to press buttons alternately at a rapid speed to gain speed in the game but what's happening is one button seems to be interrupting the other button so virtually cancelling each other out which is quite annoying, I can tap just one button to gain speed but can't reach further then a special point due to buttons cancelling each other out.

Please help with a fix if you know one as this is my favourite game.

Thanks

Try the game 88' Games and let me know if it does the same thing. I notice in track and field if you press the buttons too fast its wont work as planned. In 88' games I can go ham and it seems to work.

Also you can open notepad and start mashing the buttons to see if its actually skipping or if its just the game.

Alright I will try that and get back you, thanks for the reply.

If it is track and field would there be anyway of fixing that issue?

No, because it's not an issue.  Thats a really popular game on my mame cab, and we find that the faster presser doesn't always win the race.  The game REALLY rewards accuracy first, THEN speed.

Did you read through the link 05SRT4 provided above ?

here is a relevent reply from the thread :
I have to thank and compliment Andy from ultimarc here. He saw the thread, contacted me and helped me to resolve my issues.
This is customer service above and beyond what I have ever seen from any Vendor.  :applaud:
As it turns out the debounce time in the controller was set to a value preventing the registration of more keypresses per second if you only hammer on a single button. He provided me with a new firmware for the ipac and voila the problem vanished.
He is thinking about publishing this firmware as a general release  for  all Ipacs on his website.
I remember reading a post from a while ago on here explaining that there was a batch of  shoty switches around requiring higher debounce times.

Thanks again Andy, you are awesome!

So it seems the ipac firmware is the cause of the issue and Andy did release a new firmware to help fix it - perhaps contact him and see if a version of that firmware is available for the board you have !  :dunno

I have emailed Andy to find out what the go is,
But it seems from that fix was only to be able to mash one button really fast which is what the game does but the original has the capability to mash two run buttons at alternating speed,

Is there a way I can assign keys from two different keyboards maybe? probably a dumb question,

Technically yes you could. My setup uses a X-Arcade tank-stick which has its own encoder. But for my extra admin buttons I use another encoder from force Attack.

So yes you could have two separate encoders to handle one game.

Wait so I'd need another ipac board not just a keyboard??

Wait, you're actually going to do this.....

If you wanted to use a keyboard you would need to hack the keyboard so that the button uses one of the keyboard keys. Basically soldering the arcade 2 wires to the keyboard.

But before you do any of this maybe just plug a keyboard in, bind the game keys to what ever keyboard buttons and try the game then. If you get the results you want then go for it.

Yeah not 100% what you meant by this but I'll plug in another keyboard and test and see if that fixes the issue
