Question about Jamma/JPAC Mame setup
« on: January 22, 2017, 07:53:02 am »
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to double check something before I keep going with my project -
I'm working on my first mame project where I'm converting an old Midway cabinet to mame while using the original monitor.
I have ordered a Radeon 4850 video card, the JPac and intend to use the Calamity CRT_emulation drivers.

My question is for the controls and audio, I wasn't planning on using the jamma harness/JPac at all - I was just going to connect them directly to the PC. Is there any issue with doing this?

I'm using this solution from gameroomsolutions.com, which you just connect the buttons/joysticks directly into the PC via USB cable:
https://gameroomsolutions.com/shop/2-player-led-arcade-control-panel-bundle-kit/

Next, I plan on buying PC speakers (TBD) to also connect directly into the PC for the sound.

The only other items I'm not sure of is the coin mechanism and door I plan to purchase:

...I'm not sure where it will plug in...I'm thinking it MAY ALSO have to connect to the JPac somehow, as I don't believe it's USB - can anyone confirm?

Finally, I would like to know what others are using as a solution for their lighting - I need to find a way to power my LED buttons, my Marquee and I'm considering an LED strip that will go under the cabinet. How does one go about powering these?

My ideal solution is 1 button that turns on everything, thank you for any help/clarity!!!!

If all you only want to use the JPac to connect the monitor, I wouldn't bother.  99% of the reason to use a JPac is to connect to a JAMMA harness, which includes all the controls, speakers and monitor.

Use one of these to connect to the monitor:

Assuming you have enough inputs, you can connect the switches on the coin door to the other interface just like a button.
