Trackball options?
« on: January 23, 2004, 03:44:26 pm »
Alright guys, already deciced on ball top T stick-pluses and was thinking of going with one of Andy's track balls and a Opti-Pac. Any other opinions out there? Is it neccesarry for a 3'' track ball or will a 2 1/4 ball be sufficient? I'm not really into having a totally authentic controls and will be only playing golf, bowling, centipide, marble maddness ect.. on it? I do like a translucent ball but with finding a light and power source seems like a lot of trouble.

pretty much all those games you mentioned used a 3" ball.  I had a 2.25 ball in my cab now and all those games were not as much fun (except centipede) with the small ball.

Just for Golden Tee and Marble Madness alone you'd be sorry if you didn't have 3" TB

It's all about what you know. I play the same games with Ultimarc's 2.25, and I have a great time. Haven't played those games on an original arcade in so long,... maybe it would be more fun with a bigger trackball, but I don't know. All I know, is that I play them and they are fun.

If you get a 3", I don't think you'll ever regret it.
The larger ball offers more control on most of the games you mentioned.

If I order the happ 3'' with the translucent ball, should I order the one that comes with a light source or should I use a LED light source? Just wondering which will be easier to mount to a power source off the computer.

Still not sure which Happ 3'' track ball I should order. They have a 6 and 12 volt lighted vesion, I want the translucent ball, and a unlighted version. I've read threads of people using these unlighted ones with a LED that plugs into thier computer. Which is the easiest way to go? And where doed this LED plug into? Also this will have a plexi overlay, should I buy the high mount ball or should it not matter if it is properly routed on top?
