Using Playstation-PCUSB adaptor for MAME
« on: June 04, 2002, 11:03:13 pm »
has anyone done this?  I'd like to buy one of these Playstation controller to USB adaptors and use it with one of the Arcade-style joysticks that are made for the PS.  Would this work in Mame?

I know the alternatives are to build one - which i don't have the skill for, or buying an X-arcade or Hotrod - which are both awesome, but way out of my poorass budget.

thanks for any help.

Yup. Got 4 of them myself, plug in two PSX MAS sticks, works great. They are seriously the best things in the world. With Windows 2K/XP they're instantly recognized as 4 axis 16 button gamepads. Two things I've noticed:

The controller needs to be pushed in all the way into the adapter. This may sound stupid, but on one of mine if it is literall 2mm out it stops registering. I wrap rubber bands around it to hold it in place.

The other thing is if you have more than one plugged into your system, both have to have controllers connected to them. If I have both USB adapters plugged in, but only one controller connected to one of them, weird stuff starts happening.

That's it. If you get them you definately won't be disappointed.

P.S. If you're getting them from LevelSix: I've gotten 4 from them, they've all worked and were shipped immediately and came quickly. However, a friend of mine bought one that is broken, and unfortunately LevelSix has been totally unresponsive. He's sent multiple emails to support, sales, everything. Not a single reply. Just so you're warned.

Or you could try one of these for $30 and it supports 4 Playstation controllers... that would kick arse for some 4 player Guantlet or Xmen or something else on Mame 4 players ;)

If anyone gets one of these Joybox 5's with the 4 controller hookup to USB or if anyone already has one, please post if you like it and if it IS compatible with all the goodies on a PSX controller... thanks much.

Radioshack has them for $10 dollars.  The number on them is 26-247.  They are not on their website yet.

copy and paste these links in your browser to see the pics of it

The PSX guns don not work with MAME and a PC, they may work with a Tv out card  with MAME on your TV or in a cabinet with an arcade monitor, but definately not on your PC.

Yes, I know this is a thread from almost a year ago.

Anyway, I was in desperate need of a couple good, ergonomic gamepads for console emulation & I did a quick hit on Ebay & found These  It allows you to use (2) PS/PS2 gamepads via the USB port.

Including shipping I paid just over $10, & from what I can tell they work perfectly so far.  The only thing I haven't been able to test is the rumble.
