Joystick Shaft Extenders - Sanwa

Hi Folks, Im using a set of Happ Competitions in my cabinet and Im thinking about swapping them out for Sanwa's - problem is (and was, when I put the thing together) is that its made of 3/4 inch wood- so the shaft needs to clear the hole. Would it be wise to use a Sanwa with a 1.5cm shaft extender or is there a better solution out there?
