mame64 displaying terrible color recently? gui and in game
« on: December 29, 2016, 03:59:52 am »
Hey all. I set up my new cab finally and am running it off my personal pc until my ebay pc arrives in the mail tomorrow. I noticed recently out of no where, all of the colors look like crap and got super washed out. Bright red looks dark maroon. Even the basic mame menu is all wacky. Green looks yellow. This is my mame64.exe with nonag mkchamp etc. My regular mame.exe works perfect which i believe was also a custom build. I deleted, and created brand new mame.ini files and it stays the same. I cant find anything online for searching this. Any idea what happened here? It was playing fine, and one day during capcom bowling, i realized the boxes just looked horrible. I will supply my .ini tomorow, as im typing this on my laptop now, but as i said, ive tried it with a brand new mame.ini, and im also assuming the mame.exe file reads the same ini file as the mame64.exe, so that shouldnt be the issue. Perhaps is there a.cfg file or something? even so i have no idea how this randomly happened during play. It happened while running hyperspin, but happens with mame launched on its own.

Do you use HLSL ? This sounds like crappy settings for the colors. Open mame.ini, look for 'hlsl enable'. If it is followed by a 1, change that to 0 and save the .ini. This turns HLSL off.

Alternatively I would try to install MAME fresh to a new directory, put a test rom in the roms folder and see if it works.

No hlsl  is disabled and always has been. Even so creating a new name.INI would default back to disabled anyway. And furthermore my regular mame.exe  runs fine and runs in the same folder as my Mame 64.  Like I said it just happened out of nowhere. I was playing games one day and realized the colors changed.

small update.. got my ebay pc in that was meant for the build.. copied my hyperspin hdd over, and this color issue rectified itself.. No idea why it happened, or the solution.. but, self fixing is always ok with me
