Just wondering how the perfect 360 degree joysticks are wired up.  I know they don't use microswitches.

Also wondering how a 49 pos joystick would be wired up as well.

the 360 in the perfect 360 is not degrees.  You hook up up like an 8 way, but you have to provide power to it to power the optics.  It's an 8-way that uses optics instead of microswitches.

Too hook up a 49way, only one way really.  Hook each input up to a key and use analog mame.

Edit:  Man, I can't type!

To hook up a 49way, only one way really.  Hook each input up to a key and use analog mame.

You wouldn't need a special keyboard encoder?

nope... he hooked the 49 way controlers (only some btw) directly to the driver itself.

Instead of converting it to analog... then converting it back for the game.

The game thinks of the inputs as 49way..

btw... they need power also.

I believe SirPoonga is refering to the old sinistar type 49-ways, not the happ optical 49-ways.  For the latter, you would need a hombrew circuit to interface to the stick.

is there a way to hook a 5v up to an x-arcade interface. Or any other way to hook the 5v up?

how is a 49way not optical?  That;s how it works with 7 sets of optics on both axis.  to use one of these read analog mame's website.

Ok, the 360 is 360 degrees, but it means smooth control in 360 degrees of momevment.  It doesn;t mean anything special or analog.

I had the happs 360 in my slikstik and to be honest, i didn't like the way it felt playing games like mortal kombat and street fighter.  I didn't always have the feeling that i could pull certain moves, like fireballs or dragon punches off with precision timeing when i needed to.
It was a nice stick, but a little to rigid for my taste. I still get pissed at my supers sometimes lol.  The jury is still out for as far as what kind of joystick i like the best for me.   I am  going to wait and try to get ahold of some leaf joysticks, a happ competition and happ ultimate then make a good informed decision about what one i like for an"all around" joystick.  Its so stinkin hard to decide lol GRRRRRRR.

groovy~

  • Awesome face!
From what I have heard the old 49-ways and the new ones are functionally identical, they just don't have the same pinout (or something like that).

I have a pair of orange ones (Arch Rivals) that I am going to get around to using someday.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Groovy stay away from the super.  My goodness the 4 way super I have feels cheap.  It does not spring back to the center, and the click is horrible.

That is my opinion though.

Ahhh (sorry Sirp my bad).  I don't know why I thought they were analog (duh 49-way means only 49 positions even on the old ones).
