Arcade Stick "travel" examples?
« on: December 06, 2016, 12:57:49 am »
I'm am locking down my parts for my first cabinet and have a question about a joysticks' "travel" or "throw".

As I understand it, the shorter the throw/travel, the less movement a stick will make to get to its side. So a short throw means the stick will travel a shorter distance from its center to a side and a long throw means the stick will travel further from its center to a side.

What is the "usual" for a typical arcade game in America? What are some good examples of throw distance in relating it to typical arcade games?

Its a personal preference thing really.

Some games play better with shorter throw as the controls are more snappy.
Pac Man for instance.

Some games benefit from a longer throw like Street Fighter for instance as it is more forgiving pulling off special moves and you have bigger arcs of movement.

Every game is different but you just need to see what works best for you and the games you play.
