Receiver/Computer?

Here's the deal:  I have an old Reciever laying around and want to run my speakers off of it. How do you actually go about doing this. I've hooked up countless surround system but I'm confused on how to make the sound pass from the computer to the receiver then out to the speakers. Right now It sounds fantastic with a modded Creative Labs 2.1 system with 140 watt speakers...but each speaker is seeing only 6 watts. I would like to power these speakers close to there recommended specs. I'm probably overlooking the obvious. Thanks

I think "and that is dangerous for me" that you need to run a cable from the line out of the sound card (don't know if you have a sound card installed or not) to the left/right input on the receiver (the cable I think looks like a mini-headphone jack --> red/white RCA male).  From there plug the speakers in as usual.  But I'm sure there are people who know a WHOLE lot more about this that me...

Best way to do it is get a sound card with a digital out. (either coax or optical) and make sure you have a matching connector on your receiver.  Plug it in and your good to go

When playing from the receiver you will need to select digital input 1 or whatever it turns out to be..

I have always powered sound for my pc through my reciever. It works fine to get a little Y plug(male mini-connector with 2 female rca jacks) mentioned above into an input, then just hook your speakers up to the outputs. I have always used my normal speakers so my situation is a little different but it should be the same. I used to get scared sometimes playing asherons call back in the day at night with the bass turned up
